About Our Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Quality and Professional Learning, the Professional Learning and Development Consultant will be responsible for the design, delivery, evaluation, and monitoring of professional development activities to support early learning and child care programs and services, including child care centres and family home child care agencies, licensed under the Nova Scotia Early Learning and Child Care Act and Regulations.

The Consultant is responsible to create professional development content and deliver/support delivery of training to the department’s early years staff. Developing and maintaining working relationships with EECD staff, early childhood educational institutions, and community partners is critical to the identification, prioritization, design, and delivery of professional development training.

About You

To be successful in this role you have a bachelor’s degree and five years of related experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. As the successful applicant you also have demonstrated knowledge and experience in the design and delivery of training to large groups of individuals in a similar operational environment. You also have demonstrated knowledge and experience in the theories and principles of adult learning and education, and knowledge of training techniques to assess needs, develop training material, and deliver training.

This position is bilingual, and the candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and French. Diplomacy and conflict resolution skills are required to effectively deliver training and address questions and concerns from Early Years staff and from the early childhood sector. Excellent time management and organizational skills and can build and maintain effective relationships with non-governmental and governmental members (both internally and externally).

You work well independently, and in team environments, you apply the concepts of equity, diversity, and inclusion to all areas of your work and will support your colleagues to do the same. Proficiency in standard office software applications (word processing, presentation software, spreadsheets, and Group Wise) is required. Assets considered for this position:
  • Degree and/or work experience in an early learning and childcare
  • Certification in Adult Learning
  • Working knowledge of e-learning software suites
  • Working knowledge of programs and services offered by the Early Learning and Child Care Branch, Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, and current legislation, regulations, and policies
  • We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using on or more of the following tools: oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

    Other Considerations:

  • You must have a valid Nova Scotia driver’s license.
  • Work is completed in a comfortable office setting.
  • Periodic travel to other locations within the province to consult with staff and/or deliver training is expected.
  • Your normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.
  • Please note, this is a full-time term vacancy with a duration of approximately 2 years.
    This is position is located at the EECD office in Halifax.
