Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the casual full-time position of Summer Outdoor Youth Leadership Coordinator with the Adventure Earth Centre.

The Adventure Earth programs engage with children, youth, and families in nature-based experiential programs in environmental/earth education, youth leadership, and outdoor recreation. We use the principles of Earth Education, including the use of characters and storytelling.
The Summer Youth Leadership Coordinator will directly support the youth leadership volunteers that support Adventure Earth Programs throughout the summer. They will provide support, guidance and ongoing evaluation to youth that volunteer with Adventure Earth Programs. In this position they will also directly support and work collaboratively with The Summer Day Camp Coordinator and Inclusion Coordinator.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Organizing and leading information nights for youth leaders and parentsCreating and conducting the selection process, setting up a communication system with the youth, and scheduling successful applicants on programs.Planning and facilitating a full-day orientation/training session at the beginning of the summer as well as additional training and social events throughout the summer.Daily tasks such as observing and evaluating the youth leaders’ participation in their volunteer leadership assignments, providing support and feedback, maintaining the Adventure Earth programs’ core values, checking in with the youth leaders at the beginning and end of the day, maintaining a budget and communicating with the Outdoor day camp, Overnight Camp Coordinators, and Community Outdoor Recreation CoordinatorKeeping a record of events, attendance, and schedulesSupporting the Summer Coordinator with programsMaintaining communications with youth leaders throughout the programPartnering with other Recreation Centres in our area and across HRM and overseeing and assisting youth leaders with planning and execution of a community actionWork with youth to organize and a community action activityWriting a summary report for the Community Outdoor Recreation CoordinatorOrganizing and staffing the three day/two night YES! Camp ProgramSupport the Community Outdoor Recreation Coordinator in handling administrative duties such as registering participants, sending program mailouts, tracking and inputting statistics and maintaining a budget.Work collaboratively and in support of the summer coordinator and inclusion coordinator to run programs and ensure a safe working environment.QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:
Must have a first aid certification, valid through to August 29th, 2026Must have experience leading either children or youth in an outdoor and/or environmental education or recreational settingConsidered an Asset:
Class 5 driver’s licenceAdvanced first aid qualificationCanoe certificationCurrent Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard Service certificationPrevious experience working day camps and/or overnight camps at the Adventure Earth Programs an assetManagerial/supervisory experienceExperience in designing outdoor environmental program curriculumStudies in Outdoor Recreation, Environmental Education or similar coursesMental Health First AidNon-Violent Crisis InterventionExperience with Halifax’s Youth Leadership Program an assetConditions of Employment:
