Under the direction of the Dean, Sobey School of Business, and works collaboratively with the Office of Advancement team members the Communications Officer will:
In collaboration with the External Affairs Office, develop and execute dynamic strategic communication plans for the School, updated on an annual basis.Develop communication materials for key audiences such as media, government, business, general public and alumni as well as students, staff and faculty.Be the main "storyteller" for the School, conducting in-depth interviews with faculty, researchers, students and alumni to create content for various channels.Work with the Dean's Office and the Associate Deans on the preparation of newsletters.As part of the annual communications plan develop and implement a strategic approach to digital communications to promote Sobey School of Business Programs, Research, Alumni, and Executive Education.Oversee and maintain the school's websites and social media platforms and ensures they are optimized for search engine results.Monitor the School's websites and social media outlets and works with Department and Program web editors to ensure all sites are up to date, have appropriate content, meet legal/University requirements, and appear both professional and on-brand.In collaboration with External Affairs, serve as the primary liaison for the Sobey School of Business with the press and other mainstream media outlets. Identifies and writes the stories that profile research, people profiles, for various platforms and develops media pitches.Collaborate with External Affairs to handle press requests, press conferences, and develop strategies for dealing with the press that are on site for Business related events.Collaborate and coordinate joint communications, marketing, or recruitment projects with Enrolment Services to ensure accuracy and coordinated approaches for all School related communications material and strategies generated by their Office.Work with Recruitment staff and outreach coordinators to ensure effective communication during joint events such as open houses, interactive campus tours, and school visits.Collaborates and coordinates joint communications, marketing or branding projects with the Office of External Affairs.Advise staff/faculty within the school on the university's brand graphic standards (as set by the External Affairs Office) as needed.Attend regular meetings with the Office of External Affairs team to discuss and coordinate Sobey School of Business-related communication projects at Saint Mary's.Perform other related duties as assignedExperience and Education Requirements
To be the successful Communications Officer you will have:
Undergraduate degree, with concentration in Business, Public Relations and /or Communications or related areas.Minimum 5- 7 years of direct related experience.Excellent writing skills for research and profile pieces.Proficiency in Microsoft SuiteExperience with managing and/or updating websitesExcellent oral and written communication skills.Experience in social media and understanding analytics.Ability to research, process, organize and present information interestingly, and convincingly.Ability to prioritize work assignments and deliver by the appropriate deadlines.
Work independently.Understanding academic and administrative structures is important.Application Details
