Supervisor: Building Principal/Assistant Principals
Terms of Employment: Days as designated per Negotiated Contract. On-site according to Principals designated schedule.
The School Psychologist provides a full range of school psychological services to students aged 3-21, including Special Education, 504, Gate, and intervention. Services include screening, assessment, and collaboration with education teams; development, monitoring, and evaluation of programming; eligibility determinations for specially designed services; and social-emotional/behavioral health support as needed. Reports to the Building Principal and Assistant Principals.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssist in the development of programs for students with diverse learning needs. Interpret psychological assessment and diagnostic information. Schedule and conduct extensive psychological examinations and prepare timely reports, including cross-battery assessment procedures, social/emotional/behavioral assessments, adaptive assessments, and risk/threat assessments. Assist with eligibility determinations for students with disabilities and/or giftedness. Participate as a team member on educational teams and coordinate duties with team members.
Serve as a consultant to school personnel, including Special Education teachers, professionals, Social Workers, Counselors, general education teachers, and administrators. Provide individual and group counseling as needed. Assist in proper referrals to community agencies and specialists. Provide individualized therapy programs to meet student needs. Advocate for student needs and mental health services; coordinate services. Write diagnostic evaluation summaries and analyze data to provide recommendations.
Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to implement therapy in daily activities. Participate in building and Special Education Committee Meetings as requested. Participate on the District-wide Psychological First Aid team to respond in crises. Participate in Risk and/or Suicide Assessments. Provide information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate. Travel frequently between Blaine County schools.
Possess a Masters Degree in Education, Psychology, or School Psychology, a School Psychology Specialist degree, or current National Certification for School Psychologists (NCSP). Must hold or be able to obtain a valid Idaho Pupil Personnel Services credential endorsed for School Psychologist K/12. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required. Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Spanish language skills or bilingual/biliterate preferred.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of best practices for assessing culturally/linguistically diverse students; school psychology practices, educational strategies and interventions, child development, substance abuse, tests and measurement, and crisis management. Knowledge of current federal and state laws and regulations regarding individuals with disabilities aged 3-21. Knowledge of K-12 educational principles, theories, methods, and strategies; academic, social, and behavioral characteristics of K-12 students; and educational curricula and trends.
Knowledge of behavior management, conflict resolution strategies, and socioeconomic and cultural background differences.
