Main Purpose of Job

Supervision and management of a Child Welfare Team involves planning, managing, directing, training, monitoring, and evaluating the activities of professional and paraprofessional staff that provide Child Protective Services, Mental Health Services, and other Child Welfare Services. Significant efforts are directed toward assuring the safety of children, preserving and strengthening families, remedying the conditions that may contribute to abuse and neglect, developing judicious and expedient service plans, overseeing concurrent plans when needed, and helping to assess appropriate family members.

Position

Duties
  • Program administration: administer Safe Place programs by planning, organizing, and managing operations while maintaining compliance with Washington County Department of Social Service expectations and grantor requirements.
  • Coordinate and provide site supervision and monitor professionals and services at the Safe Place Child Advocacy Center.
  • Supervision: provide direct supervision to Child Protective Services, Therapeutic, and administrative team members.
  • Facility management: manage the Safe Place facility and work environment, overseeing security, cleaning, and equipment.
  • Community events, outreach and public relations: ensure Safe Place participates in community events related to child abuse prevention and awareness; monitor and assist with facilitation, training, and outreach opportunities hosted by Safe Place.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: A Master’s degree in social work from an accredited college or university approved by the Council on Social Work Education.

Experience: Seven years of professional experience in a social work capacity in a public or private agency or institution, with five years in an administrative, supervisory, or consultative capacity.

Notes:

  • These requirements are established by the Social Services Administration by authority provided in Human Services 4-204 of the Annotated Code of Maryland.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Social Work classifications or Social Work specialty codes in the Social Science, Psychology, and Welfare field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Six months of experience using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, CJAMS, and Google.
  • One year of experience in a supervisory role or program administration.
  • One year of experience in the child welfare field.
  • One year of experience collaborating with community partners or stakeholders.
  • LMSW-C or Independent Practice licensure.
Licenses, Registrations and Certifications
  • Candidates must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners.
  • Employees assigned duties that require operation of a motor vehicle must possess a valid Maryland motor vehicle operator’s license.
