Position: GNA - GERIATRIC NURSING ASSISTANT - NIGHT SHIFT - PART TIME

Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA)

Night Shift 10:45pm - 7:15am
$19.00 - $23.00 + applicable shift diff
Monday - Friday w/ alternating weekends
24 Hours per week

SUMMARY:
  • Provide practical, established Geriatric Nursing Assistant skills to residents following Fahrney-Keedy’s policies and procedures.
  • Assist nurses and supervisory staff in resident care on the units.
  • Provide quality care by checking resident and room at least every two hours to ensure the care is safe and timely.
  • Provide strong verbal and written communication skills with residents, family members, visitors, staff, etc.
DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY:

As a Geriatric Nursing Assistant, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibilities and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

JOB FUNCTION:

Essential functions include tasks performed in accordance with policies and procedures and as instructed by supervisors. Omission of specific statements does not exclude duties if the work is similar, related, or is an essential function.

RESIDENT CARE

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform all assigned tasks according to policies and procedures and supervisor instructions.
  • Follow work assignments/schedules in completing duties.
  • Cooperate with inter‑departmental staff to maintain nursing services.
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis.
  • Report all complaints and grievances immediately.
  • Notify the facility of lateness or absence at least two hours prior to shift start.
  • Report occupational injuries/exposures, incidents of fraud, and other hazards to supervisor.
  • Participate in nursing report upon reporting for duty.
  • Follow established blood/body‑fluid exposure policies.
  • Assist residents with daily dental, oral hygiene, bathroom, dressing, hair, nail, and other personal care functions.
  • Keep residents dry and change gowns, clothing, linen as needed.
  • Change bed linens, make beds, and reposition bedfast residents every two hours.
  • Assist with bowel and bladder functions; maintain intake and output records; report bowel movements.
  • Assist residents in preparing for medical tests, activities, visits, and transporting to appointments.
  • Assist with lifting, turning, moving, positioning, and transporting residents using equipment.
  • Assist with non‑sterile compresses, shaving male residents, and hair care for female residents.
  • Assist in preparing residents for physical exams; weigh, measure, and record vitals.
  • Answer calls promptly; keep water cups clean and filled; offer hydration.
  • Check residents frequently, at least once every two hours, and observe/report pressure areas and skin breakdowns.
  • Report injuries, skin tears, and incidents immediately.
  • Ensure rooms are ready, make residents comfortable, inventory and store possessions.
  • Transport residents to new rooms or lobby; load/unload from vehicles as needed.
  • Provide care to dying residents and post‑mortem care as instructed.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:
  • Review care plans daily and inform Nurse Supervisors/Charge Nurses of any changes.
  • Ensure notes reflect care plan adherence.
  • Record resident information electronically and report changes promptly.
  • Adhere to user /security policies; report unauthorized access attempts.
  • Maintain proper workstation security and log‑off procedures.
