Position: GERIATRIC NURSING ASSISTANT / NIGHT SHIFT / FULL TIME

Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA)

Night Shift 10:45pm - 7:15am
Full-Time - $20.00 - $24.00

Monday - Friday w/ alternating weekends
40 Hours per week

SUMMARY
  • Provide practical established Geriatric Nursing Assistant skills to residents following Fahrney-Keedy’s policies and procedures.
  • Assist nurses and supervisory staff in resident care on the units.
  • Provide quality care by checking resident and room at least every two hours to ensure the care is provided in a safe timely manner.
  • Provide strong verbal and written communication skills with residents, family members, visitors, staff, etc.
DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY

As a Geriatric Nursing Assistant, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibilities and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

FUNCTION

RESIDENT CARE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform all assigned tasks in accordance with our established policies and procedures and as instructed by your supervisors.
  • Follow work assignments, and/or work schedules in completing and performing your assigned tasks.
  • Cooperate with inter-departmental staff as well as other facility staff to ensure that nursing services can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit and shift.
  • Report all complaints and grievances made by a resident immediately.
  • Notify the facility when you will be late or absent from work – at least two hours prior to your shift start time.
  • Report work-related injuries or illnesses and/or occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals to your supervisor.
  • Assist residents with daily dental and mouth care, bath functions, dressing/undressing, hair care, nail care, changing linen, positioning every two hours, bowel and bladder functions, intake and output records, preparing for medical tests and social activities, lifting, turning, walking assistance, application of compresses, shaving, weighing, measuring temperatures, blood pressures, pulse, respirations, answering resident calls, ensuring hydration, checking residents who cannot call for help, monitoring for pressure areas and injuries, ensuring rooms are ready for residents, storing personal possessions, assisting with packing, transporting residents, loading/unloading vehicles, providing end-of-life care and post‑mortem care.
  • Follow established policies concerning exposure to blood/body fluids and safety precautions.
  • Assist with administrative duties such as reviewing care plans, informing supervisors of changes, recording resident information electronically, approving notes, reporting accidents or incidents, safeguarding user IDs and passwords, and ensuring computer workstation security.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
  • Review care plans daily for changes.
  • Inform the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse of any changes in the resident’s condition for care plan updates.
  • Ensure notes reflect care plan follow‑up.
  • Record all resident information using electronic documentation.
  • Report all changes, accidents, incidents and suspected unauthorized access to supervision promptly.
  • Ensure department workstations are properly logged off or screensavoured.
