Parker Plastics, Inc. (PPI) is a privately owned manufacturer of plastic bottles and containers with four blow molding plants. Parker Plastics is looking to hire an Assistant Plant Manager / Plant Manager to join our Maryland plant and lead overall operations. This is a succession opportunity for a proven manufacturing leader to step into the Plant Manager role upon the current Plant Manager’s retirement.

The Plant Manager is responsible for leading overall operations at our 24/7 operation in Hagerstown, Maryland and achieving established goals for safety, quality, customer service, employee retention, productivity, and profitability. This is a hands-on position for someone with relevant technical expertise and active management experience. The Plant Manager has direct oversight of all plant functions, policies, and procedures across safety, personnel, operations, business planning, and communications.
The Plant Manager will lead production efforts by developing and implementing near-term tactics and identifying goals and objectives to meet the company’s vision, mission, and long-range strategic plans. The Plant Manager will manage employees and material resources to ensure that product is produced efficiently, cost effectively, on time, and at optimum quality levels. Continuous improvement and cost reduction through constant assessment of employee, machine, and process effectiveness is a key requirement for the role.
Duties / Responsibilities
- Lead a team of ~7 direct reports including department heads in production, quality, human resources, customer service, warehouse and maintenance, plus oversee approximately 125 indirect reports
- Be present on the production floor, engaging with the workforce daily
- Create and maintain a positive culture to drive employee retention and alignment around shared goals
- Maintain community partnerships and uphold Parker Plastics’ reputation in the local community and state
- Lead and drive management commitment to personal and food safety programs
- Provide overall direction and define priorities for department managers and employees to achieve production goals and control costs
- Review KPIs daily and create plans to improve performance
- Identify problems and implement solutions for machine, mold, material, or procedural issues
- Support all aspects of the employee lifecycle including hiring, training, performance management, and development programs
- Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with OSHA, SQF and GMPs, company policies, and procedures
- Maximize throughput and machine efficiency through training, setup, and continuous evaluation of standards
- Ensure all finished goods meet or exceed customer quality and shipping requirements
- Oversee and approve all plant expenses and capital expenditures
- Lead communication to all plant employees regarding business needs, goals, and results
- Share and adopt best practices with other facilities
- Collaborate with the sales team on new projects
- Drive continuous improvement, including automation and process optimization, and pursue relevant grant submissions
- Plan effective and cost-efficient utilization of manpower, materials, and machinery
- 10+ years in blow molding or a similar industry (familiarity with extrusion and/or injection stretch blow molding machinery and support equipment required)
- 5+ years in Production/Maintenance/Plant Management or a similar leadership position
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or related field; or high school diploma with strong work experience
