Minimum Qualifications for Nurse Practitioner:
- Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master’s Degree in Nursing.
- National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers.
- Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Maryland and West Virginia.
- American Heart Association BLS Certification required; additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the department.
Experience:
- Physical medicine and rehabilitation and/or pain management experience preferred.
- Eligible new graduates will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
- FNPs preferred; AGACNPs considered.
- Master’s level degree as Physician Assistant preferred.
Minimum Qualifications for Physician Assistant:
- Bachelor’s Degree as Physician Assistant or Master’s Degree required.
- Graduate of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant training program required.
- Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants required.
- Must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the Maryland Board of Physicians and WV Board of Medicine (or WV Board of Osteopathic Medicine).
- American Heart Association BLS Certification required; additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the department.
Core
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages comprehensive and individualized care for physical medicine and rehabilitation/pain management patients and their families in the ambulatory setting.
- Completes daily rounds; consults and/or pre‑procedural/surgical evaluations.
- Completes integrated assessments; performs and communicates results of diagnostic tests.
- Consults and communicates with clinic and hospital staff regarding abnormal findings.
- Facilitates patient disposition by coordinating appropriate services and follow‑up appointments.
- Develops comprehensive individualized plans of care, including teaching and discharge planning.
- Demonstrates expertise in caring for patients across the educational continuum.
- Identifies unstable or complex patient care situations and facilitates appropriate intervention.
- Recognizes emergency situations and initiates effective emergency care.
- Conducts teaching and training for nursing staff, hospital staff, students, patients, families, and the community.
- Participates and initiates interdisciplinary approaches to patient care, program development, and education.
- Documents plan of care, interventions, and evaluations clearly and concisely.
- Provides leadership in the development and implementation of changes that positively impact patient outcomes.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
- Heavy/Hard Work: lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, positioning patients, standing, walking, carrying patients, materials, and equipment weighing 40+ pounds.
Working Environment:
- Working closely with others.
- Protracted or irregular hours.
- Exposure to biohazards and infectious diseases.
- Exposure to patient care equipment electrical hazards.
Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency with computers.
- Strong communication skills.
