Job Description:

Apex Systems is looking to hire an ONSITE Mechanical Design Engineer for our client based out of Hagerstown, MD.

This assignment is anticipated to be a 12 month contract with strong potential for extension; however, Apex Systems cannot guarantee the length of this assignment.

This role will operate on a standard first‑shift, Monday-Friday schedule.

Responsibilities:

* Develop mechanical design solutions that meet defined performance, cost, quality, regulatory, and styling requirements.

* Lead and support engineering activities within a designated mechanical domain, contributing throughout the design and delivery lifecycle.

* Validate and integrate design contributions from other engineering teams, ensuring accuracy and readiness before release.

* Confirm that design outputs align with business goals, technical criteria, and overall project expectations.

* Contribute insights to product roadmaps and system-level planning.

* Build and maintain relationships with academic institutions and external research partners within the relevant technical field.

* Participate in innovation initiatives and business development discussions, offering expertise in mechanical systems and component history.

* Collaborate across internal networks to share technical insights, document lessons learned, and influence design strategy.

* Mentor junior engineers, support peer development, and model a culture of continuous learning.

* Expand technical depth while also strengthening broader cross-functional capabilities (T‑shaped skill profile).

* Clearly communicate how engineering contributions support broader organizational and business objectives.

Experience:

* 5+ years of relevant mechanical engineering or mechanical design experience.

* Demonstrated ability to lead design activities, deliver high‑quality mechanical solutions, and collaborate within cross‑functional engineering groups.

* Experience providing technical coaching, guidance, or training to less‑experienced team members.

* Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across a large organizational network.
