State Highway Administration (SHA) – Office of Materials Technology is recruiting a Senior Pavement Marking Technician in Anne Arundel County. This is an open recruitment; applicants must meet the minimum and selective qualifications listed below by the closing date. of Work

This position reports directly to the Field Quality Assurance (FQA) Team Leader and serves as the senior technical leader for the Pavement Marking FQA Team. The incumbent will guide project engineers, lower‑level technicians, contractors, and manufacturers with minimal assistance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review contractors’ quality control testing results for accuracy and compliance with standards and specifications.
  • Coordinate and review pavement marking evaluation testing on materials applied by SHA maintenance crews and contractors to ensure product quality, service, and contract compliance.
  • Inspect the maintenance of traffic lane closures to ensure traffic control plans meet MUTCD standards and protect workers and the traveling public.
  • Maintain, perform, and schedule calibration of pavement marking testing instruments.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or high‑school equivalency certificate.
  • Eight (8) years of experience in technical engineering related work (design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning).
  • One (1) year of experience in construction inspections, field data collection and analysis, quality assurance lab testing, or pavement marking inspections.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and/or Access.
  • Experience in contract management.
  • Experience with partnering or customer service.
Additional Requirements
  • Valid Maryland motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Must obtain MARTCP Pavement Marking Certification within one year of employment.
  • Applicants may substitute 30 semester credit hours of civil engineering curriculum per year of required experience (up to three years).
  • Associate degree in engineering, construction management, or surveying yields credit for two years of the eight‑year experience requirement.
Special Requirements
  • Coverage of responsibilities throughout the entire state.
  • May be asked to travel out of state or stay overnight with as little as 48 hours’ notice.
  • State funds may not be available before travel; applicants may need to pay upfront and submit an expense statement for reimbursement.
