Overview
Piper Companies is seeking a Avionics Technician for a well‑established aerospace, defense, and engineering services company headquartered in Hagerstown, MD, specializing in aircraft modifications, airborne systems testing, ISR support, government mission training, and engineering solutions. The Avionics Technician is responsible for advanced troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, and inspection of aircraft avionics systems supporting government, military, and commercial line operations. This position will be on-site in Hagerstown, MD five days a week!
Responsibilities- Diagnose, repair, install, and inspect aircraft avionics systems in full compliance with FAA requirements.
- Perform engine power runs, complete wire harness installations, and integrate RF systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical hardware malfunctions (software issues addressed by a separate team).
- Provide support for line operations, customer training aircraft, and remote field activities.
- Interpret and work from wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Conduct FAA‑mandated inspections and ensure all maintenance documentation is accurate and up to date.
- Partner with engineering teams to implement design enhancements and system modifications.
- Mentor and offer technical direction to junior or less experienced technicians.
- Safely operate avionics testing tools and ground support equipment.
- 5+ years of avionics experience
- Strong FAA regulatory knowledge (IPM/ATA)
- Active Secret security clearance required
- Valid driver’s license; able to pass DOT/FAA drug screening
- Must be able to obtain a passport
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Qualifications (Preferred)
- A&P Certificate
- Experience supporting DoD or Army aviation programs
- Aircraft experience with Bombardier/Challenger or Beechcraft 300
- PMP or AMP certification (not required)
- Long‑term employment mindset
- Salary Range: $60,000 - $70,000
