Summary

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Commercial Roofing Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of commercial roofing systems, materials, and installation techniques. They will be responsible for accurately assessing project requirements, providing cost estimates, and collaborating with project managers and clients to ensure successful project completion within budgetary constraints.

Responsibilities
  • Project Assessment:
    Conduct thorough assessments of commercial roofing projects, including site visits, measurement analysis, and evaluation of existing conditions.
  • Cost Estimation:
    Examine blueprints, utilize industry-standard estimating software and methodologies to prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for materials, labor, safety requirements, equipment, and other project expenses.
  • Material Selection:
    Work closely with suppliers and vendors to select appropriate roofing materials based on project specifications, budget constraints, and performance requirements.
  • Bid Preparation:
    Prepare comprehensive bid proposals, including detailed breakdowns of costs, project timelines, and scope of work documents.
  • Client Communication:
    Generate new sales with new and existing clients via phone calls, emails, and internet inquiries and respond to client requests as needed. Collaborate with clients, architects, engineers, and project managers to clarify project requirements, address concerns, and provide expert guidance throughout the estimation process.
  • Risk Assessment:
    Identify potential risks and challenges associated with each project and develop strategies to mitigate these risks effectively.
  • Budget Management:
    Assist in developing and managing project budgets, ensuring that estimates align with financial objectives and company profitability targets. Assist Project Manager in managing job costs, change order requests and billings as necessary.
  • Team

    Collaboration:

    Work closely with project managers, contractors, and field staff to ensure seamless coordination and communication throughout the project lifecycle. Be knowledgeable in overall company service offerings and be willing to provide cross-selling opportunities to other divisions within the company.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and new technologies related to commercial roofing systems and estimation techniques. Implement process improvements as needed to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Be flexible and keep an open mind to change.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Climbing ladders and some fieldwork.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (preferred but not required).
  • Previous experience in construction estimating, particularly in roofing projects, is a plus.
  • Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently, multitask, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and industry standards related to roofing construction.
  • Willingness to learn and take on new challenges in a dynamic work environment.

Work Environment

Functions can take place indoors or outdoors, sometimes in high, precarious places with fumes and/or airborne particles. The standard work environment has loud to very loud noise levels associated with various equipment, coworkers, and phone conversations. Often work must be performed in high and/or cramped work spaces and awkward positions. The employee works around hazardous situations, materials, and equipment.
