Duties, Responsibilities & OtherKCI's cost estimating and scheduling practice is a unique service within KCI which develops detailed "production‑based" construction cost estimates and schedules for a variety of clients. These clients include owners, contractors and design firms throughout North America. We specialize in contractor‑style cost estimates utilizing HCSS Heavy Bid. Depending on the project, our estimating process requires various tasks such as performing detailed quantity takeoffs, constructability analysis, Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules utilizing Primavera P6 software, risk analysis, etc.
to develop a cost estimate. The strength of our team comes from our collective years of experience in the construction industry.
As a Lead Estimator for KCI, your role is to lead a team of estimators in the development of construction cost estimates for complex heavy civil construction projects. This role requires a deep understanding of construction methodologies, construction costs and durations. This position will require close collaboration and coordination with the chief estimator, project managers, the practice leader, clients and/or estimating teams from other firms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Thoroughly review bid documents, plans, specifications, and project scope to accurately assess project requirements.
- Lead the development of detailed cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects, including material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs proficiently utilizing HCSS Heavy Bid software.
- Assign and manage tasks among project team members.
- Collaborate with estimating team members to brainstorm and develop cost‑effective solutions to project challenges.
- Preparation of CPM project schedules.
- Analyze and evaluate quotes from subcontractors and vendors to ensure competitive pricing and scope alignment.
- Conduct project site visits to gather necessary data, including measurements, sketches, notes, and photographs.
- Identify project risks and opportunities, quantify, assign costs and develop strategies to mitigate.
- Lead team and manage quantity and estimate reconciliation process.
- Stay updated on industry trends, construction costs, and emerging technologies.
