Summary Statement
The Student Activities Assistant is a part‑time position responsible for coordinating student events sponsored by the office, overseeing the Student Care Cupboard, providing front‑line daily office operations, and assisting with New Student Orientation.
ScheduleThis is a part‑time position for 24 hours per week. Regular work hours are Monday from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.;
Tuesday‑Thursday, 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. with occasional opportunity to flex time for evening and weekend hours for special events.
- Reports directly to and is responsible to the Student Activities Coordinator.
- Shares responsibility for overseeing the Care Cupboard volunteers.
- Coordinates most closely with food service, facilities, campus police, audio‑visual technology, the grants office, and various student affairs offices.
- Develop, promote, and lead programming in the Student Center sponsored by the Student Activities Office.
- Maintain the organization, set up, and proper use of the recreational areas of the Student Center. Ensure the main dining area, Antietam dining area, game room and meeting spaces are arranged back to their original formation at the end of the day.
- Oversee the operations of the Student Care Cupboard, including promotion, tracking usage, restocking supplies, supervising the Care Cupboard student worker and volunteers, writing reports, and assisting with securing funding through grants and monetary donations.
- Oversee the day‑to‑day office operations, including issuing HCC and parking permits to students, employees and special groups, assisting students with general questions, and helping students use the food pantry if needed.
- Assist the Coordinator with New Student Orientation tasks, including promotion, registration, event day coordination, problem‑solving and post‑event assessment.
- Assist students with general campus information and website navigation and refer students to appropriate departments as needed.
Associate degree preferred. Event planning and promotion, customer service, and data‑keeping experience are a must.
Skills And AbilitiesThis position requires top‑notch customer service and the ability to work independently. The assistant must be confident with basic technology and willing to adapt to new technology, comfortable providing direction to students and volunteers, possess strong organizational and time‑management skills, maintain strong attention to detail and accuracy, and employ creative thinking.
Working EnvironmentThe work environment is dynamic, with multiple projects and activities occurring simultaneously. A positive, energetic attitude is essential, along with a commitment to delivering exceptional service to HCC students and actively engaging them through extracurricular programming.
