Job Summary

The Actuarial Catastrophe Modeling department at Everest is looking for a Catastrophe Modeling Researcher, who will assist our department in advancing our cat models. A successful candidate should have a desire to use problem‑solving skills in applying sound scientific methods to solve unique and challenging problems in the fields of climate, atmospheric, seismic, and weather‑related perils. It is expected that candidates will be highly motivated, detail‑oriented, well‑organized, able to perform self‑directed research, have outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and be team‑oriented.

Responsibilities
  • Validating vendor catastrophe models
  • Creating new catastrophe models
  • Assisting in real‑time event loss estimation
  • Learning basic reinsurance pricing
  • Presenting research to various departments at Everest
Qualifications, Education & Experience
  • PhD/Masters in Engineering, Meteorology, Seismology, or related discipline preferred
  • 2‑5 years of work experience with catastrophe modeling in the re/insurance industry, government, or academia preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
  • Experience with catastrophe models
  • Programming/coding skills (SQL, Python, R, C#, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong work ethic

The base salary range for this position is $152,000–$180,000 annually. The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, experience, qualifications and work location. All offers include access to a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
