The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) is a professional, registered nurse who is a skilled communicator, collaborator and authentic leader. The ANM supports the organization in the execution of the nursing strategic plan and priorities. The ANM actively participates in unit and hospital decision‑making and provides meaningful recognition to others. The ANM provides operational and administrative support to Nurse leadership. This position effectively coordinates staffing, supports throughput, quality and safety outcomes, staff competency, hiring, clinical and staff corrective actions, unit efficiency, quality care and other departmental activities to support the mission, vision and values of Hackensack Meridian Health.
The ANM, in collaboration with the Nurse Manager, assesses, plans, implements, monitors and evaluates nursing practice and the nursing care delivery system with direct supervision of front‑line staff.
- Act as a collaborative partner with the Nurse Manager in all aspects of unit leadership.
- Participate in recruitment and retention strategies.
- Assist with unit huddles and leader rounding with employees.
- Participate in unit goal creation reflective of hospital goals and the mission and vision of Hackensack Meridian Health.
- Lead or participate in evidence‑based practice projects or research.
- Lead or participate in unit‑based or hospital‑based shared governance committees or councils.
- Resolve conflicts and facilitate constructive resolutions and positive outcomes.
- Complete employee corrective action plans/counseling as necessary.
- Adhere to HMH Organizational and Managerial competencies and standards of behavior.
- Prepare and conduct periodic performance evaluations for assigned staff members.
- Contribute to and monitor the unit orientation process of all roles as necessary.
- Model employee recognition and cultural competence, social justice and fairness.
- Escalate nursing labor/management issues as applicable.
- Participate in payroll, staff scheduling and daily staffing needs.
- Assist in the management of the department budget; monitor business intelligence for the unit.
- Maximize care efficiency and throughput.
- Understand the relationship between value‑based purchasing and quality outcomes with revenue and reimbursement.
- Monitor unit staffing productivity and flex staff accordingly.
- Optimize the patient and family experience of care.
- Lead multidisciplinary rounds.
- Ensure unit‑based performance improvement monitoring completed, trended and reported internally and externally.
- Lead or participate in quality improvement projects.
- Conduct root cause analysis investigations.
- Assure unit regulatory compliance.
- Participate in staff education and competency.
- Serve as a role model to others and mentor new employees and new Charge RNs.
- Interpret, support, and communicate policies, standards and procedures.
- Serve as a role model for staff in all aspects of nursing professionalism and quality care.
- Assist in identifying cost containment measures by identifying alternative measures of product utilization.
- Serve on‑call based on unit requirements.
- Assume special projects as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
- Adhere to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Skills and Abilities
Required
- Associates in Nursing or diploma in Nursing degree.
- BSN in progress and/or willing to acquire within three (3) years of hire (
Note:
advanced master’s degree in nursing programs satisfy the BSN requirement). - Minimum 3 years recent nursing experience in the respective specialty or equivalent.
- Exceptional focus on teamwork, dedication to ongoing education and the ability and passion to deliver the highest quality of care based on a strong sense of patient focus are all required.
Skills And Abilities
Preferred
- MSN.
- Supervisory or charge nurse experience.
- NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License.
- AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
- National Certification acceptable to the Magnet Recognition Program and appropriate to your current specialty (within two years of hire).
