Description
CSPNJ, a mental health nonprofit agency, is looking for 2 Outreach Workers for Bergen County. Under the direction of the Team Leader, the Outreach Worker will be responsible for finding and identifying unsheltered homeless veterans through direct street outreach activities. The Outreach Worker builds relationships with veterans experiencing unsheltered homelessness, providing advocacy, and assisting with connecting veterans to services and housing.
The focus of this work is to connect veterans with resources and services to assist them in stabilizing their homeless, mental health and primary health situations. 90% of time will be spent out in the community engaging unhoused individuals. This position serves Bergen, Hudson, and Passaic counties.
- Find and identify unsheltered homeless veterans through direct street outreach activities.
- Build relationships with veterans experiencing unsheltered homelessness, provide advocacy, and assist with connecting veterans to services and housing.
- Connect veterans with resources and services to stabilize their housing, mental health, and primary health situations.
- Must provide a copy of High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience providing peer support.
- Knowledge of HMIS software a plus.
- Ability to establish positive relationships with individuals who are chronically homeless and have high vulnerability, including persons with mental illness, substance use disorders, and a history of involvement with the criminal justice system.
- Knowledge of transitional and permanent supportive housing.
- Willingness to disclose current or prior use of mental health and/or addiction services, homelessness, and speak openly about aspects of their individual recovery.
- Ability to work with individuals with mental illness in a caring and professional manner.
- Proficient in MS Office products and general computer literacy.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
- Must have a valid NJ Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.

Salary Description
- Hourly Rate: $24.04
