$20.00 an hour

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Responsible for contracted services for the Bergen County Housing, Health and Human Services Center including supervising both lead janitors and cleaners (members) providing janitorial services for the Center.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Works towards the accomplishment of department/Agency goals
  • Maintains confidentiality and immediately reports to management breaches in confidentiality
  • Practices job requirements on an accurate, timely and regular basis
  • Observes and maintains appropriate professional boundaries with members, co-workers and supervisors
  • Attends all scheduled meetings as assigned
  • Meets relevant continuing educational/training requirements
  • Completes all required documentation/paperwork accurately and within established time frames.
Supervisory Responsibilities when applicable
  • Provides direct supervision to assigned staff in order to enhance their technical skills sets, leadership qualities and administrative functions
  • Provides on-going support to staff to ensure completion of job responsibilities
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the agency's policies, applicable laws and governmental regulatory agencies
  • Reviews staff responsibilities to determine time frame and scope of authority, reviews staffing requirements, and allotments of available resources
  • Evaluates staff productivity and documentation of service delivery
  • Works with staff to provide technical advice and to resolve problems
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training new employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Essential Functions Include
  • Ultimately responsible for continual communication / interaction with the Center Director relating to the interior cleanliness and exterior (grounds) and overall appearance of the property
  • Ensure that appropriate disciplines and auditing procedures exist and are updated for all functions managed in accordance with Agency and Member policies and operating standards
  • Manage facilities staff and ensure continuous service to building and grounds
  • Order/Maintain cleaning supply inventories
  • Maintain schedules for both lead janitors and members for a 365-day continuous schedule
  • Work with staff to set and attain meaningful performance and developmental goals for members. Monitor the progress of staff goals and provide appropriate support. Address necessary issues to keep unsatisfactory performance, disruptions, and discontent to a minimum. Maintain effective two-way communications between Facility Manager and Lead Janitors and Cleaners.
  • Repairs damaged wood, plaster or sheetrock walls and ceilings, including replacing ceiling tiles, paints interior and exterior wood, metal, sheetrock, plastered or masonry surfaces; repairs and installs locks and fixtures; replaces window balances, and blinds and springs, adjusts doors to close properly. Replaces broken glass.
  • Responsible for minor plumbing repairs such as, but not limited to stoppages, leaks in copper, plastic, and waste pipes; replaces pop-up drain stoppers, basin drain assemblies in sink, faucet washers or cartridges, rings in faucet spouts, ballcock in toilet tanks, shower faucets.
  • Shovel snow and spread ice melt on all walkways, ramps, stairs, loading dock, gazebo area, and parking lot, as necessary to supplement the County of Bergen's General Services Division, who is primarily responsible for snow removal, to help prevent hazardous conditions from forming.
  • Functions to be assigned to Lead Janitor and supervised by Facility Manager
  • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.
  • Gather and empty trash.
  • Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
  • Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using specific cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
