Position: SUPERVISOR, ACCESS SERVICES

Overview

Supervisor, Access Services – Hackensack University Medical Center, Hackensack, NJ. Requisition #  Status:
Full Time with Benefits. Shift: Day;
This is an evening flex shift position with hours typically 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM, with possible adjustments as needed. Three of six holidays and every other weekend required.

Responsibilities
  • Supervises day-to-day activities of pre-registration including insurance and benefits verification, obtaining authorization/pre-certification, referral procurement where needed, determining patients out-of-pocket expenses, notifying patients of these obligations, and ensuring adherence to insurance verification policies across assigned Admission Service areas.
  • Coordinates daily registration/office coverage and line personnel responsible for Inpatient/Outpatient/Ambulatory/ETD registration and related functions; manages staffing levels to ensure proper patient flow and patient satisfaction.
  • Monitors and audits the capture of correct registration elements and demographic information to comply with industry practices and regulatory requirements; maximizes upfront cash collections and billing accuracy; recommends process changes when shortfalls are identified.
  • Maintains knowledge of departmental workflows and supervises work queues; proficient with EPIC tools to maintain staff productivity.
  • Supervises denial management workqueue processes to maintain low denial levels and advises on corrective actions as needed.
  • Develops monitoring and control mechanisms to evaluate employee performance related to efficiency, accuracy, and professional courtesy in communications with patients, physicians, and managed care organizations.
  • Participates in automated Pre-admission Testing (PAT) scheduling processes as requested.
  • Prepares statistical reports related to scheduling, patient throughput, and customer service (e.g., number of encounters per service per day).
  • Identifies patient population needs and delivers care that is specific to those needs (age, culture, language, accessibility); communicates with patients and caregivers at appropriate levels.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned and adheres to organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications

Education,

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of 3+ years prior experience in hospital patient financial services operations.
  • Advanced knowledge of the health insurance industry, managed care issues, revenue cycle, and hospital IT systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of various patient accounting platforms, including EPIC.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Customer service oriented.
  • Detail-oriented with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Google and/or Microsoft applications.
  • Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills.

Education,

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Preferred:

  • Bilingual.
  • Graduate degree is a plus.

Licenses And Certifications Preferred:

  • Relevant professional certification.
Compensation and Benefits

Minimum rate of $72,072 Annually. HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency; posted pay is a reasonable good faith estimate of minimum base pay and may not reflect total rewards. Some roles may be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or shift differentials. Includes comprehensive benefits (health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, retirement).
