- The Echocardiographer is responsible for performing cardiac ultrasound procedures and assisting a trained, credentialed cardiology attending during stress echocardiogram and TEE procedures. Maintains complete knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology.
- Performs echocardiograms including 2-D, 3-D when applicable, strain, M-Mode, color flow imaging and Doppler studies.
- Recognizes need for contrast imaging enhancement and administers as per protocol.
- Responsible for preliminary measurement and documentation within the Cardiovascular Information Systems for use by reading physicians and cardiologists in finalizing echocardiography reports. Escalates and communicates all critical findings in a timely manner to ordering physicians and cardiologists.
- Obtains patient history and performs procedures as ordered.
- Assists patients onto and off of the bed and notifies supervisor in cases of acute or life-threatening abnormalities.
- Obtains digital acquisition and storage of echo studies in Cardiovascular Information Systems for physician interpretation.
- Transports equipment to the patient’s room for bedside studies, as needed.
- Calibrates, cleans and maintains equipment; reports breakdowns and supply needs.
- Follows special procedure policies regarding probe maintenance and sterile processing (e.g., TEE).
- Completes EPIC workflow and processes billing charge requisition, log books, worksheets and reports, as applicable.
- Cleans and prepares room for the next patient.
- Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). Communicates with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level.
- Adheres to the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) standards and the Medical Center’s Organizational Competencies.
- Participates in performance initiatives and monitoring.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Education, Knowledge,
Skills And Abilities
Required
- Graduate of a certified cardiovascular technology school and/or graduate of an accredited ultrasonography program with a specialty in cardiac sonography.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills that may include Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Preferred
- One-year clinical echocardiography experience.
Licenses And Certifications Required
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certification or Registered Cardiac Sonographer Certification or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Certification.
- BLS AHA Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (HCP) Certification.
- Regular contact with Medical Center personnel, patients and visitors.
- Lifts a minimum of 50 lbs., pushes and pulls a maximum of 375 lbs., and stands a minimum of 4 hours a day.
The posted rate of pay is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of our market-competitive total rewards package. Some jobs may be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or shift differentials.
