Position Overview
The Pathologist Assistant at Hackensack Meridian Health assists the pathologist in autopsies, surgical specimen preparation, gross description, frozen section, and electronic and specialty studies. The role supports the care team through technical competency and accurate clinical data collation.
- Under supervision, selects, prepares, and dissects surgical tissue sections for routine microscopic and specialty examination.
- Photographs and gross‑describes surgical specimens, ensuring accurate patient information.
- Assists in frozen section consultation, embedding tissue, cryostat cutting, and staining slides.
- Procures fresh tissue for biorepository and ancillary research studies.
- Utilizes Faxitron x‑ray imaging for PACS.
- Maintains equipment, supplies, and cleanliness during gross anatomic dissection.
- Prepares teaching materials for intra‑ and interdepartmental education.
- Performs computer system functions for timely reporting.
- Supports post‑mortem examination tasks as directed.
- Adheres to HMH standards of behavior.
- Master’s Degree from a NAACLS accredited Pathologist Assistant program or U.S. MD with ASCP‑PA certification and ≥5 years grossing experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google Suite).
- Graduated with Health Sciences or biological discipline and ≥8–10 years PA experience (historic/grandfathered).
- Master’s Degree.
- ASCP certification preferred; on‑the‑job PA in hospital laboratory.
Minimum rate of $53.81 hourly. Full benefits package includes health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement benefits.
