Quest Diagnostics is hiring a Medical Laboratory Scientist II in Hackensack, NJ. This is a hospital‑based position at HUMC and we are hiring for both evening and night shift. Sign on bonus of $5,000 and relocation assistance are available for external applicants. Perform test procedures of moderate/high complexity, exercising independent judgment and responsibility in the specialties in which you are qualified by education, training, and experience.

Pay Range

Pay range: $30.01 - $49.50 / hour; employees may be eligible for a shift differential of 10% on second shift and 15% on third shift. Additional details on shift differential will be provided if an offer is extended.

Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot instruments and procedures in the department.
  • Support quality control, troubleshoot complex problems, provide customer support, maintain instruments and equipment, train staff, improve processes, and complete special projects as assigned.
  • Perform and report assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
  • Support and comply with laboratory policies for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record maintenance.
  • Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround time for results, including STATS or critical results to clients.
  • Maintain reagent/test kit dates (receipt, expiration, opened).
  • Perform and document QC analysis to ensure accuracy of clinical data and proper instrument function.
  • Inform supervisory personnel of all problems associated with test procedures.
  • Report deviations from standard or accepted testing procedures and cooperate with investigations.
  • Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reporting.
  • Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
  • Complete training and competency checklists as required.
  • Assist supervisor with training other personnel.
  • Adhere to all CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
  • Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and/or work practice controls as directed.
  • Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel, if applicable.
  • Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections, if needed.
  • Assume lead responsibilities if qualified and delegated, in absence of a supervisor.

Qualifications
  • Required

    Work Experience:

    One (1) year full‑time experience or training in high‑complexity testing in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Preferred

    Work Experience:

    Minimum of 3 years clinical experience, most recent in the present department.
  • Physical And Mental Requirements:
    • Lifting and carrying 1–10 pounds frequently; 11–25 pounds occasionally; 36–50 pounds seldom; >50 pounds only with assistance.
    • Ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods.
    • Frequent walking and/or standing.
    • Use of manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments demanding significant dexterity.
  • Knowledge:
    • Comprehensive theoretical and operational knowledge in designated specialty.
    • Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures.
