Job Description

The Capacity Management RN is responsible for all activities related to capacity management, including coordinating patient placement, access case management, and patient flow to provide appropriate, effective, and efficient care. The RN works to remove barriers and bottlenecks, communicates with nurse managers, physicians, and administrators, and delivers daily capacity plans.

Responsibilities
  • Uses clinical expertise to coordinate the placement of elective and emergent admissions and transfers according to clinical standards, ensuring patients are admitted to the most appropriate available bed.
  • Is clinically knowledgeable of disease entities, epidemiology, and circumstances affecting placement.
  • Assures communication and implementation of the capacity plan for the day as defined at the daily bed meeting.
  • Communicates daily plan to evening staff and supervisors to maintain implementation and focus.
  • Reviews patient conditions as needed, independently or with case management staff, to ensure appropriate placement.
  • Tracks bed availability, maintaining logs and records.
  • Works directly with Plant Ops and Environmental Services on daily Room of the Day (ROD).
  • Provides direct oversight of the Daily Census Bed Reports (3 times a day).
  • Walks rounds on all nursing units to identify barriers to discharge, build relationships, and educate staff.
  • Monitors bed availability on all units and pending discharges to meet ADT needs of cath lab, etc. (details omitted for brevity).
  • Serves as a resource to placement staff regarding unit capacity and equipment policies.
  • Makes recommendations to the Director for closing or downsizing units and manages patient transfers during overflow.
  • Communicates with the Director regarding impending needs for divert, OR holds, or cath lab delays, and calls additional bed meetings as needed.
  • Maintains constant communication with ETC leadership and supervisors, facilitates transfers, and manages isolation and observation protocols.
  • Transports patients to the floors as needed.
Qualifications

Education, Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited program and three years of professional nursing experience.
  • Knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of state and agency laws regulating professional nursing practice.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in applying professional nursing methods and techniques.
  • Skill in maintaining effective working relationships.
Preferred
  • National certification desirable.
  • Master's degree in nursing or related field.
  • Previous experience in capacity management.
Licenses and Certifications Required
  • NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License.
Compensation

Minimum rate of $67,154.88 annually.
