- Assist patients/families and providers to engage in open and clear communication
- Provide accurate oral interpretation services for non-English speaking patients and families
- Communicate clearly, courteously, and responsibly with patients, families, providers, hospital staff, and all visitors
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality and non-bias behavior
- Utilize the appropriate standards and approach to the interpretative process
- Conduct purposeful rounding for outcomes on all patients/families utilizing departmental approved scripting
- Communicate observations affecting compliance to the healthcare team
- Demonstrate the ability to work under pressure with diverse members of the team, patients and families
- Comply with established departmental policies and procedures
- Provide customer relations services/comfort measures through initiating and maintaining effective communication with patients and/or their families; respond to requests for non-clinical comfort needs
- Ability to work in challenging situations involving issues of delivering difficult messages including death and dying
- Maintain an environment that promotes patient and personal safety
- Assist in helping patients move through the hospital system
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned
- Adhere to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior
- High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs
- Minimum of one year of experience as an interpreter
- Ability to speak English and other language fluently
- In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, and successfully pass a medical terminology course
- Certification or qualification in medical interpreter training
- Knowledge and ability to articulate the cultural and perceptual factors that affect communication between patient, families, providers and interpreter
- Demonstrate ability to relate to people in a warm and consistently friendly manner; teamwork oriented, commitment to customer service excellence and collaborative approach required
- Rotating schedule/shifts that may include weekends and/or holidays based on needs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms
Skills and Abilities
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree
- Certification or qualification in document translation
Starting at $26.71 Hourly
