Position: Court Services Officer 2 (Criminal - Pretrial Services)

Overview

Salary

The salary range for this position is $59,661.54 to $96,767.80 for Schedule A, and $59,661.54 to $91,929.42 for Schedule

B. For newly hired individuals, starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater. Judiciary employees hired prior to June 3, 2014 are Schedule A;

those hired on or after June 3, 2014 are Schedule

B.

Job Description

Position: Bergen Vicinage – Pretrial Services Program. The selected candidate must possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, and case management skills and will regularly interact with pretrial defendants, judges, prosecutors, public defenders, county jail staff, local law enforcement, private counsel, and the public.

Responsibilities: Research criminal case histories; conduct pretrial risk assessments; prepare reports; meet with defendants; make recommendations to judges regarding conditions of pretrial release; staff first appearance/Central Judicial Processing hearings and pretrial detention hearings; monitor conditions of release for higher-risk defendants; assist defendants in achieving goals to ensure court appearance and public safety; report non-compliance to the court. Provide guidance to clients with social, emotional and rehabilitative needs;

make recommendations or referrals for social services, testing, treatment and/or counseling; monitor treatment progress. Assist with training and mentoring of Pretrial Services staff and with stakeholder/community outreach related to the Pretrial Services Program. Work a non-traditional schedule, including weekends, holidays, and after-hours on-call responsibilities. Perform other related duties as required.

Note: Experience with pretrial services programs is helpful.

Remote Work

REMOTE WORK: The Judiciary offers a hybrid schedule; this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside Judiciary buildings. Participation requires installing a multifactor authentication app and high-speed home internet access. The selected candidate will also work a non-traditional schedule, including Saturdays, Sundays, holidays and after-hours on-call responsibilities. Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position.

Qualifications

& Education

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience in case management involving gathering and analyzing case-related information, with exercising judgment and discretion, and one or more of the following: reviewing cases to identify needs, coordinating with judges and/or attorneys to resolve issues, and/or preparing reports of findings and recommendations.

  • Substitution: Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute additional paraprofessional or professional experience on a year-for-year basis (one year of such experience equals 30 semester hour credits). An associate degree plus two years of additional paraprofessional or professional experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree. A master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience.
