Team Description :
The Air Shopping Experience team builds the end‑to‑end air shopping journey, across native and web, that powers flight search, discovery, and booking across Expedia Group brands. We focus on fast, reliable, and intuitive mobile experiences that help travelers find the right flights with confidence, while enabling experimentation and innovation at scale across our apps.

This role sits within the Expedia Product & Technology division as part of the Technology organization, partnering closely with platform, search, recommendations, checkout, identity, and experimentation teams to deliver connected, high‑quality experiences across brands and platforms. You will be based in Gurgaon, collaborating with distributed teams across Expedia Group.

Senior Manager, Software Development Engineering (People Manager)

What You'll Do

Lead and grow high-performing engineering teams delivering scalable, resilient, and secure software solutions that advance Expedia Group's product and platform strategy.
Manage people and teams first, not just projects – set clear expectations, define team goals, and drive accountability for delivery, quality, and operational excellence.
Attract, hire, and onboard diverse engineering talent, building a strong bench of future leaders and critical technical experts.
Coach, mentor, and develop engineers and managers, providing regular feedback, career guidance, and growth opportunities aligned to individual aspirations and organizational needs.
Drive delivery across multiple services/domains, ensuring effective execution of roadmaps, strong partnership with Product Management, and predictable outcomes.
Foster a healthy engineering culture centered on inclusion, psychological safety, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Own engineering standards and best practices (architecture, code quality, testing, observability, reliability, performance) across your area and influence these across adjacent teams.
Partner closely with cross functional leaders (Product, Design, Data, Security, Operations, and other P&T teams) to align priorities, manage dependencies, and remove blockers.
Use data and metrics to run the business of engineering – track and act on signals related to delivery, operational health, quality, and team health.
Manage budgets and headcount plans in partnership with your leadership, making thoughtful trade-offs between scope, quality, and timelines.
Champion modern engineering practices and AIdriven tooling (e.g., CI/CD, test automation, observability, AI-assisted development) to improve productivity and quality.
Influence technical direction and strategy by evaluating build vs. buy decisions, simplification opportunities, and platform investments.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
Typically 9+ years of software development engineering experience, including:
3+ years leading people (direct management of engineers and/or managers) with full responsibility for performance management and career development.
Demonstrated success managing teams delivering complex, distributed systems or large-scale web services.
Proven experience in:
Running agile software development processes (Scrum, Kanban, or similar).
