Overview of role:
The Senior SDLC Engineer will play a key role in developing and enhancing Bupa’s Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) tool ecosystem, ensuring it delivers a seamless and efficient experience for engineering teams across the business. This role focuses on implementing, integrating, and optimizing SDLC tools and processes to support consistent, high-quality software delivery. Working closely with the SDLC Product Manager and other stakeholders, the role holder will contribute technical expertise to evolve the ecosystem, drive automation, and improve developer workflows.

The position requires strong collaboration across development, QA, security, and operations teams to ensure that SDLC tools meet functional, compliance, and performance requirements, enabling Bupa to deliver world-class products and services.

Enhance SDLC Tooling and Processes:  Design and improvement of SDLC tools and workflows, ensuring they support efficient software delivery and align with organizational standards.
Implement Scalable Solutions:  Develop and configure SDLC tools such as CI/CD pipelines, source control systems, and deployment automation to improve reliability and performance.
Drive Automation Across the SDLC:  Introduce and maintain automation for build, test, release, and deployment processes using industry-standard tools like Jenkins, Git Hub Actions, or Azure Dev Ops.
Support Standards and Best Practices:  Apply and promote best practices for branching strategies, code quality checks, security scanning, and configuration management within the SDLC ecosystem.
Integrate and Optimize Tooling:  Integrate tools for code analysis, vulnerability scanning, artifact management, and release orchestration to streamline developer workflows.
Monitor and Improve Performance:  implement monitoring and reporting for SDLC tools to identify issues, track usage, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Collaborate Across Teams:  Work closely with development, QA, security, and operations teams to ensure SDLC tools meet functional and compliance requirements.
Support Change and Release

Activities:

Plan and execute changes and releases for SDLC tools, ensuring updates are tested and deployed with minimal disruption.
Champion Developer

Experience:

Deliver ideas and improvements that simplify processes and enhance productivity for engineering teams using SDLC tools.
Stay Current with SDLC Trends:  Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and practices in Dev Ops and SDLC tooling, applying relevant innovations to improve the ecosystem.

Core Bupa IT JFF Aligned Responsibilities for a Senior Engineer 2 - Dev Ops
As a member of the Engineering Profession within the Dev Ops Discipline, this role holder will be expected to design implement and maintain scalable infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines to support fast and reliable software delivery. The will also automate processes, monitor system performance, and ensure high availability across all environments.
Programming & Development (SFIA Level 4 – PROG):  Designs, develops, tests, and improves complex programs and scripts, ensuring high-quality and secure outcomes. Contributes to selecting appropriate tools, methods, and security practices, and participates in code reviews to maintain standards.
Systems & Lifecycle Engineering (SFIA Level 4 – SLEN):  Gathers requirements for automation and lifecycle processes and proposes design options for tools and workflows. Selects best practices for software components and microservices and applies automation to deliver secure, well-engineered solutions.
Configuration Management (SFIA Level 2 – CFMG):  Manages configuration items by tracking, logging, and reporting changes. Supports audits to verify accuracy and takes corrective action when needed.
Requirements Management (SFIA Level 3 – REQM):  Defines and prioritizes requirements for small-scale changes and assists with larger initiatives. Documents requirements clearly, checks for errors, and maintains traceability while managing change requests in line with policy.
