About
The Role
This is an independent contributor role within a compliance production team supporting New Zealand accounting practices. You will manage your own job queue, take ownership of your output quality, and work with a high degree of autonomy. The expectation is that you proactively identify issues, manage your time against competing deadlines, and contribute to improving team processes. This role suits a candidate who is technically strong, self-directed, and looking to take on greater responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
• Preparing annual financial statements for companies, trusts, and individuals
• Preparing NZ income tax returns (IR4, IR6, IR3) and supporting schedules
• Managing complex bank, GST, and balance sheet reconciliations independently
• Identifying tax adjustments and reconciling tax accounts autonomously
• Preparing and maintaining work papers and supporting schedules to review-ready standard
• Conducting internal quality checks before passing work to review
• Preparing GST returns and reconciliations
• Contributing to SOP updates and process improvements as a standard part of the role
Essential Requirements
• 2 to 4 years of accounting experience with demonstrated NZ or AU compliance exposure candidates with Indian-only accounting experience will not be considered for this role
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce
• Strong working knowledge of Xero Work papers or CCH (proficiency in one is required)
• Advanced Excel skills:
Pivot Tables, advanced formulas, data validation, and clean workpaper formatting
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple jobs and deadlines independently
• Clear, professional written English able to communicate queries and review points to colleagues and clients without ambiguity
• Consistent track record of producing accurate, review-ready work
Advantageous
• Experience with agricultural clients or investment portfolio accounting
• Familiarity with NZ IRD filing requirements and compliance standards
• Experience contributing to or maintaining SOPs and process documentation
