Position: Supv Laboratory, Marshall Medical Centers North, Full Time, 2nd Shift

Overview

Assists in the supervision, coordination and evaluation of the system and testing personnel responsible for the processing of specimens to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of disease; consults with the Pathologist Director, Lab Manager/Technical Consultant/Technical Supervisor and Assistant Manager regarding compliance with regulation standards and changes in test procedures; assists in overseeing a wide variety of fiscal and technical activities in this laboratory area to ensure the efficient operation of the clinical laboratory.

Performs the following duties, as appropriate, for areas of responsibility.

  • Performs bench testing as necessary.
  • Assures that all periodic maintenance in department is performed in a timely manner.
  • Reviews maintenance records and document review on a weekly basis.
  • Reviews (with documentation) Troubleshooting and Out-of-Control logs.
  • Assures that inventory is checked and supplies ordered on a weekly basis.
  • Enters new lot #s of controls in computer.
  • Submits QC data to Quality Assurance Programs where appropriate.
  • Performs software updates as necessary.
  • Performs routine calibrations and calibration verification every 6 months where indicated.
  • Assures that proficiency testing samples are processed in a timely manner and include all testing personnel.
  • Assures that all inhouse proficiency testing is performed twice annually.
  • Assures that PMs on analyzers are performed every 6 months.
  • Performs Normal Range Study with new instrumentation and annually thereafter.
  • Oversees MLT students during rotation, including grading.
  • Orients new employees to department procedures.
  • Performs initial and annual employee competency testing.
  • Updates and/or assists in updating procedure manuals.
  • Communicates to and in services staff on new procedures.
  • Assures that department meets TJC standards.
  • Performs other duties deemed necessary by manager.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum: A.S. degree in MLT, or chemical, physical or biological science with clinical training in a school approved by ASCP.

    Registered by ASCP preferred.

    3 years experience in Moderately Complex Testing.

    Competency of components of laboratory technology, as appropriate.

    Good general condition.

    Verbal ability to communicate with patients and other clientele instructions and other information.

    Numerical ability to calculate by formula.

    Form perception, visual acuity in the color spectrum to perform specific lab tests.

    Dependable.
