Overview
This is semi-skilled work involving physical labor, performing a wide variety of tasks and projects assigned by the Superintendent or the Leadman.
GeneralDuties & Responsibilities
Repairs and maintains physical structure of airport facilities. Repairs walls to include sheetrock repair and painting and Marlite wall systems. Repairs flooring to include carpet tile squares, VCT, and bases. Repairs ceilings including hard ceiling, acoustical tiles, and metal panels. Painting to include latex, oil based and epoxies. Minor plumbing to include clearing clogs replacing parts to include flushometers, faucets, etc.
Operates equipment for maintenance such as saws, drill motors, screw guns, paint machines and various hand tools. Dismantles defective equipment and installs new or repaired parts. Works shift assignments as required and is subject to “call back” overtime compensation during emergencies and equipment malfunctions.
- High School education or equivalent; one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must possess basic carpentry skills.
- Ability to read and understand written instructions, memos, and correspondence. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
- Ability to function with minimal supervision.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in given situations.
- Ability to learn airport radio communication skills.
- Considerable knowledge of the materials, methods, and techniques used in an airport facilities maintenance program.
- Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of all work.
- Considerable knowledge of carpentry techniques.
- General knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee works with landscaping equipment, chemicals, and fertilizers. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
