The Registered Nurse is a professional nurse educated in the art and science of nursing, with the goal of assisting patients attain, maintain, and restore health when possible. Competency is determined by demonstrated possession of the knowledge, attitudes, and skills required for this position. The registered nurse provides patient care utilizing the Nursing Process within the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and related standards.

- Education:
Graduate from NLN School of Nursing - License:
Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Mississippi
- All RNs are required to complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer
- Specialty area certifications:
Cath Lab – ACLS;
Cardiac Rehab – ACLS;
Congestive Heart Failure – ACLS;
Cardiovascular Surgery – ACLS;
Emergency Department – ACLS, PALS, TNCC;
Intensive Care Units – ACLS;
Labor & Delivery – ACLS, NRP;
Medical Nursing – OB/GYN - PALS;
Nursery – NRP;
Pediatrics – PALS; PACU/Recovery – ACLS, PALS
RNs have 12 months from the date they begin working in the specialty area to acquire the appropriate certification and 18 months to acquire TNCC certification for the Emergency Department. Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days) and maintain the appropriate level of de-escalation training.
ExperienceA minimum of one (1) year of inpatient clinical experience is preferred. Experience must be within the past five (5) years, or evidence of a successful refresher program.

Supervises: LPNs, Patient Care Assistants, Unit Technicians
Physical DemandsWork is moderately active with the need to move about the facility and potentially travel within the SRHS service area. May involve lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling; exposure to body fluids; frequent repetitive motions; and the need for close visual acuity and ability to focus on computer screens and printed materials. Ability to be active for extended periods and to work scheduled shifts, including potential changes for hospital needs.

Requires keen mental faculties for assessment and decision making, strong communication skills, emotional stability, and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Special DemandsSuperior customer service skills and professional etiquette. Proficient computer skills (keyboard, MS Outlook and Word) and ability to use other office technology. Demonstrates appropriate clinical judgment for all ages.
