The Registered Nurse is a professional nurse educated in the art and science of nursing, with the goal of assisting patients to attain, maintain, and restore health when possible. Competency is determined by demonstrated knowledge, attitudes, and skills required for this position. The nurse provides patient care utilizing the Nursing Process within applicable standards and guidelines including the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, Accreditation Standards, CDC Infection Control Guidelines, and SRHS Nursing Plan for Provision of Care, Treatment, and Services.
This performance evaluation is based on these standards.

EducationGraduate from NLN School of Nursing.
LicensesCurrent unrestricted Mississippi State licensure as a Registered Nurse.
Certifications- BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer
- Specialty area certifications as listed below for RNs in specific units:
- Cath Lab – ACLS
- Cardiac Rehab – ACLS
- Congestive Heart Failure – ACLS
- Cardiovascular Surgery – ACLS
- Emergency Department – ACLS, PALS, TNCC
- Intensive Care Units – ACLS
- Labor & Delivery – ACLS, NRP
- Medical Nursing – OB/GYN - PALS
- Nursery – NRP
- Pediatrics – PALS
- PACU/Recovery – ACLS, PALS
RNs have 12 months from the date they begin working in the specialty area to acquire the appropriate certification and 18 months to acquire TNCC for the Emergency Department. De-escalation training must be completed by the end of orientation (90 days).
ExperienceA minimum of one (1) year of inpatient clinical experience is preferred. Experience must be within the past five (5) years, or evidence of a successful refresher program.

Supervises: LPNs, Patient Care Assistants, Unit Technicians
Physical DemandsWork is moderately active with movement throughout the facility and potential travel to SRHS service areas. Exertion may include lifting or moving objects and interacting with body fluids as part of clinical duties. Requires frequent use of hands and wrists and the ability to shift gaze between computer monitors and printed materials.
Must be able to be active for extended periods and work flexible schedules as hospital needs dictate.
Mental DemandsStrong assessment, decision-making, communication, and written skills. Must maintain emotional stability to work under stress, meet deadlines, and collaborate with SRHS and other organizations. Attention to detail and multi-tasking in complex situations are required.
Special DemandsSuperior customer service, professional etiquette, and computer/office technology proficiency (MS Outlook and Word). Must demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment for patient populations of all ages.
