Position Overview

The Patient Care Associate provides basic nursing care (personal and restorative care) to patients according to predefined guidelines and a plan of care established by a Registered Nurse or LPN, under the direct supervision of the RN or LPN. The plan uses the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control and the Singing River Health System Nursing Plan for Provision of Care, Treatment, and Services.

All duties are performed in accordance with Singing River Health System procedures, policies, accreditation standards, and governing guidance.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Successful completion of a Nurse Assistant/Aide program preferred.

License

N/A

Certification

Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification recognized by the State of Mississippi Department of Health preferred and required upon hire for the SNF unit. Apprentices transferring to SNF will have 120 days to schedule and pass the skills exam; if not obtained, placement in the SNF unit will be removed. Must complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer and obtain de‑escalation training by the end of the 90‑day orientation.

Experience

Equivalent related work experience or completion of a Nurse Aide program required.

Reports To

Registered Nurse or LPN responsible for patient care management during a shift.

Supervises

None.

Physical Demands

Work is moderately active, involving frequent movement within and between facilities, light lifting and carrying of objects, and exposure to body fluids. Requires repetitive wrist and hand motions, visual acuity, and the ability to remain active for extended periods. Schedules may be adjusted for hospital needs.

Mental Demands

Requires strong communication, assessment, decision-making, emotional stability, ability to handle high stress, and meet deadlines. Must maintain collaborative working relationships.

Special Demands

Excellent customer service and professional etiquette. Proficient with computer use (keyboard, MS Outlook, Word, telephone, fax). Must demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment for patients of all ages.
