Position Overview
The Surgical Technologist handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. He/She has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. The Surgical Technologist ensures quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. He/She assists in the preparation of the room before surgery and is accountable for all items required for their surgical table, including all required instrumentation and sutures.
Expectation is for all performed duties to be in accordance with Singing River Health System procedures and policies, accreditation organization, and governing guidance and publications for health care employees.

EducationHigh school graduate or equivalent required. Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program preferred.
LicenseN/A
CertificationCurrent Surgical Technologist Certification preferred.
Must complete and maintain current BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
Prior experience as a Surgical Technologist preferred.
Reports toOR Lead Coordinator and Patient Care Manager.
SupervisesNone.
Physical Demands- Moderately active work involving standing, frequent movement, and travel within the SRHS service area.
- Negligible force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including patient bodies; safe‑lifting practice required.
- Exposure to body fluids, sputum, and tissues with infectious disease hazard.
- Repetitive motions of wrists, hands, and fingers while operating standard office equipment.
- Ability to perceive sound, visual acuity, and adjust eye focus on computer monitors and printed material.
- Active for extended periods without undue fatigue; schedule may change.
Must demonstrate keen mental assessment, superior communication skills (written and verbal), emotional stability, ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, attention to detail, and ability to multi‑task in complex situations while maintaining respectful relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations.
Special Demands- Superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.
- Proficient in computer use (keyboard, telephone, fax); intermediate knowledge of MS Outlook and Word.
- Demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment based on approved scope of practice.
- Travel throughout the SRHS service area with own transportation.
