Responsibilities

The Process Engineer will provide process design and engineering support for industrial and manufacturing projects across all phases of execution—from conceptual development through detailed design, construction, and commissioning. This role requires collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and suppliers to deliver safe, compliant, and cost-effective process solutions.

Duties
  • Perform process design calculations, including heat and material balances, hydraulic calculations, and equipment sizing.
  • Develop and review Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Define process design criteria and develop data for pump, instrument, and line sizing.
  • Prepare process equipment specifications for vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, and related systems.
  • Coordinate with equipment suppliers to obtain technical information, cost data, and schedules.
  • Support equipment layout development and multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Prepare and evaluate vendor bids and technical bid tabulations.
  • Perform process safety evaluations, including relief device sizing and compliance assessments.
  • Provide technical input to proposal development, conceptual design, and cost estimating.
  • Support project execution through coordination with other engineering disciplines.
  • Interface with clients to define project scope, technical requirements, and execution constraints.
  • Provide technical support during construction, installation, and field activities.
  • Develop or support standard operating procedures (SOPs) and scopes of work as required.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, environmental, and safety regulations.
  • Identify and resolve process design issues through sound engineering judgment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Process Engineering.
  • A minimum of seven years of experience in heavy industrial, manufacturing, or process facilities.
  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the State of Alabama.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting projects in a consulting or EPC environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of process engineering principles and industry standards.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Experience in steel, metallurgical, or heavy manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with ASME B31.3 Process Piping.
  • Proficiency with process and piping analysis software such as Pipe-Flo®, CAESAR II®, or equivalent tools.
  • Experience using AutoCAD, Revit, Mathcad, or similar engineering applications.
  • Experience preparing project budgets, estimates, and proposals.
  • Ability to coach and mentor early-career engineers.
Work Environment & Expectations
  • Office and industrial field environments.
  • Periodic site visits and field support as required.
  • Collaboration with multidisciplinary project teams.
Travel

Occasional travel may be required between offices.
