Applicants are invited for a 1-year maternity cover secondment working full time as an Endoscopy staff nurse in our fantastic unit at The Royal Surrey County Hospital Foundation NHS Trust.

The Endoscopy Unit at the Royal Surrey County Hospital currently consists of four state of the art scope rooms situated on the upper floor of the hospital within a purpose built JAG accredited unit. Within this busy clinical setting, inpatient, outpatient and tertiary procedures are undertaken. The Royal Surrey County Hospital has a tertiary hepatobiliary team who perform Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) and ERCP.

Respiratory physicians also complement the procedures offered to patients.

You do not necessarily need specific endoscopy experience, but you should possess good communication skills and a driven commitment to delivering a patient focused service.

You will be fully supported in your professional development using the Royal Surrey Endoscopy training Programme which comprises of a specific competency programme, which will enable you to succeed and develop your role. The support given to our nursing team has been recognised as excellent by our governing body JAG and nurses are supported to progress within this unit

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for delivering care to pre and post procedure patients from an outpatient or inpatient referral stream. All care delivered will be competency based and supported by senior members of staff from the Endoscopy team.

Responsible for the day to day care of day cases and inpatients for endoscopy procedures

Job responsibilities

Carry out comprehensive admissions for patients, highlighting any areas of concern to senior members of the Endoscopy team as appropriate. Respecting the patients right for privacy, dignity and any religious and cultural beliefs.

To assist with all procedures after relevant training, developing Endoscopy scope room skills documented in their Endoscopy Training Programme Follow infection control and departmental decontamination guidelines as detailed in the Trusts policies

Safely manage a group of post procedure patients in recovery from scope room to safe transfer to the patient step down lounge. Escalate concerns regarding patients post procedure outcomes

Safely discharge patients with detailed post procedure information and education.

To ensure care provided is evidence based and in line with the Trusts policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.

Information to relatives and friends about the progress of treatment / procedures subject to the patients wishes.

To liaise with clinicians, other professionals and community staff as appropriate co-ordinating and maintaining care which will achieve the set standards.

To act as a second mentor and participate in teaching pre-registration students, healthcare assistants and supporting National Vocational Qualifications, as required ensuring they are given adequate supervision and support.

To be required to use any computer system purchased by the Trust providing appropriate training given.

To demonstrate an understanding of positive health and promote positive health.

To supervise bands 4,3 and 2 within the department

To be responsible for the self- development of skills and competencies through participation in learning and development activities, and to maintain up to date technical and professional knowledge relevant to the post
