We’re recruiting an experienced Payroll & Benefits Officer for a 3-month interim role supporting a busy environment in Waverley. This is a hands-on role for a payroll professional who can hit the ground running and provide confident, accurate support during a period of change.
You’ll play a key role in ensuring payroll and benefits are processed smoothly, compliantly, and on time — while delivering a responsive, customer-focused service to employees and managers.
The role
As Payroll & Benefits Officer, you will:
* Accurately process payroll data including starters, leavers, pay changes, allowances and deductions, meeting all payroll deadlines
* Produce monthly payroll reports, resolve discrepancies and support reconciliations with finance systems
* Administer pension schemes (including LGPS), salary sacrifice arrangements and employee benefits
* Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, pension legislation and employment law, supporting audits and risk management
* Act as a trusted point of contact, providing clear advice and guidance on payroll, pensions and benefits queries
* Work collaboratively with People & OD, Finance and IT teams to resolve issues and improve service delivery
* Identify and implement process improvements, including digital and system enhancements
* Maintain accurate payroll records and produce reports for management and statutory purposes
About you
* Proven experience in payroll and benefits administration
* Strong technical knowledge, with excellent attention to detail
* Confident communicating complex information clearly and professionally
* A proactive problem-solver with a continuous-improvement mindset
* Highly discreet, with a strong commitment to confidentiality and data protection
* Adaptable and collaborative, comfortable working across multiple teams and locations
