Guildford – Hybrid (3 days office / 2 home) – Permanent – Own cashflow, inventory and technical accounting
Are you a technically strong accountant who enjoys making sense of high-volume trading data? Do you like improving how a retail business understands its cash, stock and risk?
We Do Group are recruiting a Senior Financial Accountant for a well-established retail business. The position plays a key role in how the business forecasts cash, accounts for inventory, and applies accounting judgement across commercial and operational activity.
You’ll be trusted with ownership rather than supervision. The focus is not just on producing numbers, but on improving how they’re built, understood and used - particularly in areas where volume, timing and complexity matter.
WISH LIST- Proven indirect cashflow experience and confidence explaining movements in a trading business
- A questioning, solutions-led mindset with strong grounding in technical accounting
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large, imperfect retail datasets
- Own the preparation and ongoing management of indirect and direct cashflow forecasts
- Improve cash visibility by strengthening inputs around supplier payment terms, stock ordering and seasonal purchasing
- Work closely with Accounts Payable to manage payment timing while protecting payroll and critical trading outflows
- Lead inventory accounting across stores, distribution and central stock, including valuation, provisioning and capitalisation where appropriate
- Analyse and explain inventory movements, shrinkage, write-offs and margin impacts
- Act as the technical accounting lead on non-standard transactions, supplier arrangements and commercial agreements
- Prepare clear accounting papers and recommendations aligned to relevant accounting standards
- Review and refine the financial control environment, focusing on stock, cash and balance sheet risk
- Own monthly balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules
- Support statutory accounts preparation and the external audit process
- Line manage and develop a Junior Financial Accountant
- Identify opportunities to simplify reporting, improve data quality and automate recurring processes
- Strong communicator, able to explain financial outcomes to non-finance colleagues
- Advanced Excel capability, comfortable working with high-volume transactional data
- Indirect cashflow experience is essential
- Confident researching accounting standards, forming a technical view, and documenting conclusions clearly
- 10% bonus
- Hybrid working - 3 days office / 2 remote
- 25 days holiday + bank holidays
