Graduate Development at GHD

GHD’s Graduate Program is aimed at developing our future leaders and technical specialists.

During our two‑year global graduate development programme our Graduate Engineers will work with our Engineering teams developing skills across a wide variety of projects in the Transport, Water, Energy, Industrial, Property and Buildings sectors both in the UK and overseas. Your contribution will make a positive lasting benefit to the environment and our communities.

Whilst learning about our business, our values, your team, and most importantly, yourself you will develop your decision‑making, communication, technical and leadership skills.

We offer mentoring and a variety of development activities, providing on the job experience and exposure to a diverse range of projects, as well as support towards gaining chartered status within your Engineering field.

About

The Role

Are you an enthusiastic and motivated individual with a keen interest in transport and public realm design? Do you have excellent design and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to generate practical and innovative solutions that will benefit future communities? If this sounds like you, then we’d love to talk to you!

Based in our London or Guildford office, you will be part of our Place and Movement team and work on a variety of traffic engineering, urban design and transport planning schemes.

Given the international spread of the business a certain level of flexibility in working hours is important.

Core Responsibilities
  • Provide inputs to and assist in the resolution of complex technical issues on multi‑disciplinary urban highway, transport and public realm schemes.
  • Produce high quality designs and drawings from concept stage through to detailed design using AutoCAD and 3D modelling.
  • Assist with the analysis of data and compilation of reports under supervision.
  • Attend sites when required to carry out and/or assist with surveys and site audits.
  • Liaise with and assist team members working within the section.
  • Keep up to date with current developments within the area of operation as well as gaining a wider knowledge of the Transport sector.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • Have a Class 2.1 degree or above in Civil Engineering. Other relevant subjects will be considered.
  • Be able to apply engineering principles, and have an aptitude for design development.
  • Be highly numerate with a focus on problem solving.
  • Have excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be a positive and enthusiastic team player.
