Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced MEP / HVAC Estimator to support tendering activities from initial opportunity review through to handover to the contract management team. The role is office-based and will play a key part in pricing, technical appraisal, value engineering, and supporting qualitative submissions.
Key Responsibilities- Review tendering and framework opportunities with senior management
- Review tender documents and summarise tender return requirements
- Assist with pre-qualification questionnaires (PQQs) and technical responses
- Prepare HVAC take-offs and detailed quantification
- Produce Public Health Engineering estimates
- Design & Build tendering, including:
- Heat load calculations
- Duct sizing
- Pipe sizing
- Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQ) and Bills of Materials (BOM)
- Carry out value engineering (VE) exercises
- Price plant and equipment
- Develop and maintain Schedule of Rates (SOR)
- Manage tender clarifications and RFIs
- Complete tender-stage surveys as required
- Undertake technical and commercial appraisal of installation tasks
- Prepare technical responses to tender questions
- Complete options appraisals and advise clients on best-fit solutions
- Develop procurement schedules
- Support tender pricing with qualitative submissions in collaboration with the Proposal Manager
- Ensure full and clear handover to the contract management team post-award
- Proven and relevant estimating experience within HVAC / MEP services
- Strong commercial understanding of the construction industry
- In-depth knowledge of supply chains and specialist subcontractor requirements
- Competent user of estimating and measurement software, ideally:
- Plan Swift
- Bluebeam
- Good working knowledge of forms of contract, including:
- NEC
- JCT
- Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders
- Detail-oriented with a methodical approach to estimating
- Commercially astute and solutions-focused
- Able to manage multiple tenders and deadlines simultaneously
- Professional, proactive, and confident when engaging with senior stakeholders
