81 - HVAC Mechanic - Various Locations - REPOST
Position at Upper Grand District School Board. Permanent full‑time position commencing January 5, 2026.
Location: All schools/locations maintained by the UGDSB.
Hours: 1.0 FTE; 40 hours per week.
Pay: Base hourly rate: $39.12 per hour (probationary), $41.62 per hour (permanent); wage rate effective September 1, 2025.
Labor market adjustment of 3.1% will be applied to the base hourly rate; hourly probability rate inclusive of adjustment is $40.33 per hour, hourly permanent rate inclusive of adjustment is $42.91 per hour; wage rate effective September 1, 2025.
- Perform maintenance, repair, overhaul or replacement and installation of HVAC equipment including electric or gas‑fired HVAC equipment; pneumatic, electric and electronic controls within buildings; portable classroom heating/cooling ventilation units; building operation equipment (pumps, fans, shafts, bearings, heating coils); and service of boilers.
- Perform annual inspections as per the UGDSB Preventative Maintenance Program.
- Troubleshoot HVAC‑related problems.
- Coordinate with other Maintenance Staff and contractors on repairs and PM service work.
- Repair refrigerated equipment in schools (coolers, walk‑in freezers, etc.).
- Read complex blueprints, piping, sketches, schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Maintain electronic/pneumatic testing equipment.
- Perform brazing, soldering, pipe fitting, welding, and fabrication.
- Advise on problems installing and repairing HVAC equipment and systems.
- Develop and establish operation and maintenance procedures to ensure maximum efficiency.
- Comply with all requirements of OSHA, Electrical Code, Fire Code, Ontario Building Code, WHMIS and Board Policies.
- Use Building Automation Systems to monitor and track buildings to optimize energy use.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Valid ON Certificate of Qualification with evidence of experience as a qualified Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic (313A).
- Gas Fitter 1 License is a must.
- Ozone Depletion Prevention Card (ODP).
- Ability to maintain a work schedule with minimum supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Passion for a positive customer service experience with staff, students, and the public.
- Willingness and demonstrated ability to perform all requirements of the position.
- Current Ontario driver’s license with an acceptable driver abstract and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety regulations and WHMIS.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and continually assess risks.
- Post‑secondary technical education and BAS‑related experience would be considered an asset.
- Other relevant Ministry certificates (Mechanic, Electrician, Millwright, Plumber, Electronics, Pneumatics, Controls, Engineering 3rd Class, Oil Burner Mechanic) would be considered an asset.
- Familiarity with a computerized work order system considered an asset.
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel) considered an asset.
