Location: Guelph, ON, Canada
Institution: University of Guelph – Ontario Agricultural College, Department of Plant Agriculture
Funding: $500 k / year for 8 years, 50 % of award value available to fund direct research costs of chairholder and team.
Program: Canada Impact+ Chairs Program – one‑time initiative to support world‑leading researchers addressing critical national and global challenges. Chairholders must drive translation of discoveries into applications, commercialization and social & economic benefits for Canada and the world, and develop next‑generation highly qualified personnel.
Responsibilities- Direct a world‑class research program in vegetable genetics and production technologies that addresses food and water security priorities.
- Lead a team of researchers, post‑docs and graduate students, providing mentorship and fostering an inclusive, collaborative environment.
- Secure and manage funding, ensuring compliance with the Impact+ award and institutional requirements.
- Translate research findings into high‑impact technologies, commercial partnerships, policy advice and societal benefits.
- Publish in leading journals, present at national and international conferences, and engage with partners across sectors and borders.
- PhD in plant genetics, breeding, physiology, or a related field (University of Guelph requirement).
- Full professor or associate professor, or recognized senior scientist with proven record of internationally recognized research excellence.
- Established record of translating research into socio‑economic and policy impact.
- Experience leading interdisciplinary teams, securing external funding, and managing complex research projects.
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence, equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI).
