? The Guelph Community for Active Transportation (GCAT) is seeking passionate leaders to serve on our Board of Directors.

About GCAT

GCAT is a nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated to making active transportation — walking, cycling, rolling — safer, more equitable, and more enjoyable for everyone in our community.

In the last year alone, our collective voice has reshaped the city. Together, we:

  • Secured the reinstatement of funding for winter bike lane plowing, ensuring year-round access for active travelers.
  • Celebrated the opening of the long-awaited Emma-to-Earl Bridge, connecting neighborhoods like never before.
  • Lit up the night with our biggest-ever Bike the Night event.
  • Solved parking headaches with our popular Bike Valet service at the Multicultural Festival and Ribfest.

We are growing, and ready for even bigger impact — we just need you at the table.

The Role – What We’re Looking For

We are seeking enthusiastic, motivated individuals to join our Board of Directors. Whether you are a daily commuter, a weekend trail rider, or simply someone who believes in a more accessible Guelph, we want you at the table.

  • Diverse Voices:We want representation from
all backgrounds, active transportation modes, and all wards
    across the city.
  • Action-Oriented Leaders:This is a
    working board
. Our members don’t just attend meetings; they drive change.
  • Commitment:Board members typically contribute
    10+ hours per month
leading committees, organizing events, and advocating for safer streets.
  • Skills or interest in Communication, Social Media, and Fundraising

    Skills:

We have a need for board members with skills and experience in communications and fundraising. Help get our message out!

No prior board experience required — passion and commitment matter most.

Why Join GCAT's Board?

As a Board Director, you’ll help shape Guelph’s transportation future — from advocating for safer routes to building community engagement and ensuring active transportation is recognized as essential infrastructure for a healthier, more sustainable, and connected Guelph.

  • Be at the forefront of meaningful change in how people move around Guelph
  • Gain tangible experience in advocacy, nonprofit governance, and community leadership
  • Work closely with a high-energy team of advocates and volunteers
