Job Description

CIMA+’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) team is expanding to support our growing portfolio of complex and innovative projects. As we continue to strengthen our safety culture and deliver best‑in‑class programs, we are seeking a dedicated HSE Advisor to join our dynamic team. This role offers the opportunity to shape safety practices across diverse engineering projects, collaborate with passionate professionals, and make a meaningful impact on the well‑being of our employees and communities.

The HSE Advisor plays a critical role in supporting and managing health and safety across the organization. As a strategic member of the team, the HSE Advisor provides guidance to managers and employees, enabling informed decisions that ensure safe practices in engineering projects.

This position will be based at one of our Southern Ontario offices – Guelph or Kitchener – and will involve collaboration across multiple locations to strengthen our safety culture and compliance standards.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Consult on the creation of HSE program documents and tools tailored to CIMA+ operations.
  • Collaborate with leadership to foster a strong safety culture across the organization.
  • Serve as a technical advisor to Joint Health & Safety Committees (JHSC).
  • Assist PPE coordinator in sourcing appropriate safety equipment and tools for field work and client compliance.
  • Support Project Managers in integrating HSE considerations during project planning and execution.
  • Develop project specific safety plans and ensure their implementation.
  • Conduct HSE Project Verification site visits to assess safety plan effectiveness and compliance.
  • Lead investigations into incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
  • Document findings, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans for offices.
  • Support office managers in the application of emergency response measures (first aiders, evacuation drills, equipment).
  • Develop and deliver internal HSE training (e.g., Water Safety, Supervisor Training, Emergency Response).
  • Collaborate with Talent & Culture Team to evaluate and curate external HSE training providers.
  • Contribute to the development of training needs assessments and competency matrices.
  • Assist managers in identifying task‑specific training for site work.
  • Track and analyze safety performance metrics and trends to inform continuous improvement.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) from a recognized institution.
  • 3 to 5 years as an HSE practitioner in construction, mining, infrastructure or any other relevant sectors.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle are required to perform travel as part of the role’s responsibilities.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and decision‑making abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Sound judgment and critical thinking skills to influence safety outcomes and drive change.
  • Willingness and ability to travel within Southern Ontario to support CIMA+ offices and project sites.
  • Excellent verbal and writing communication skill to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
