Reporting to the Materials Management Supervisor, the person in this role will establish delivery schedules of materials in order to meet production requirements, provide cost‑effective sourcing of materials and negotiate day‑to‑day purchases and plant‑level LOIs.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain critical material information in the ERP system (lead‑times, pricing, safety stocks, vendor data)
- Place purchase orders
- Analyze, schedule and expedite material according to ERP requirements
- Amend delivery dates as required
- Expedite material deliveries where appropriate
- Analyze raw material inventory levels against production trends
- Source non‑strategic commodities in a cost‑effective manner
- Prepare and evaluate quotations based on price, quality and delivery attributes
- Assist in disposal of excess and obsolete materials/products
- Stay abreast of new products, materials, market conditions and general industry trends as they relate to HPS
- Provide timely forecasts to suppliers
- Coordinate supplier activities with other departments
- Evaluate supplier performance metrics (quality, delivery, cost)
- Provide guidance and training to plant personnel involved in material activities
- Represent the department on assigned teams in a professional manner
- Summarize activities, results and commitments in an effective manner
- Plan and complete material‑related projects as assigned
- Materials Management diploma (or equivalent degree)
- Minimum of 2 years experience in materials management (purchasing or production planning)
- Good negotiation skills
- Problem‑solving, judgment and decision‑making skills
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Familiarity with MS Office
- Familiarity with ERP systems
