Job Summary

A Senior HVAC Mechanic will provide project management oversight to repairs/installations, construction and renovations in this discipline. In addition, this position provides training to new hires in this discipline. The position will maintain and repair residential and commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems including but not limited to split direct expansion and commercial chilled water systems, cooling towers, water coolers, refrigerators, freezers, commercial coolers and associated equipment.

Responsibilities also include repair and systematic preventative maintenance on large air movers, repair and maintenance of direct digital controls, pneumatic controls, valves, dampers, coils, etc. Filter changes, belt, and motor/fan lubrication will also be assigned responsibilities. The candidate will also perform basic facility repairs related to other disciplines such as lighting, plumbing, electrical, etc. as requested.

Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions
  • Preventative Maintenance:
    Receive preventative maintenance work requests, assess requirements, and schedule repairs. Conduct preventive maintenance as specified, report deficiencies to the Supervisor, and ensure closure of documentation in the CMMS system.
  • Daily Repairs:
    Respond to service requests and project work orders, identify tools and materials, prepare purchase requisitions, and complete repairs on time. Maintain on‑hand critical spare parts and conduct periodic inventory.
  • Compliance and Customer Service:
    Promote customer satisfaction, remain courteous and professional, and keep customers informed. Perform pump and compressor system maintenance, inspect for leaks, and participate in daily mechanical rounds.
  • Miscellaneous Duties:
    Conduct daily tours of HVAC mechanical spaces, inspect fire and smoke walls, notify the Supervisor of repairs, assist with inventory, work weekend duties on a rotating basis, and maintain compliance with Wellstar Health System policies and code of conduct.

Minimum Education
  • High School Diploma General or GED General
  • Trade School Diploma/Degree Other
Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s)
  • GADL – Georgia Driver's License or VSDL – Valid State Driver's License
Additional License(s) And Certification(s)

Current Universal Ozone Depletion Certification upon hire is required. 4th class stationary engineer certification upon hire is preferred.

Required Minimum Experience

Minimum 5 years experience in general and commercial HVAC field work. Stationary plant experience is preferred. Experience with Metasys and/or Siemens Apogee control systems is required.

Required Minimum Skills

A Senior HVAC candidate must have an intermediate to advanced understanding of NFPA and Life Safety Codes, principles of thermodynamics, air dynamics and variable air volume systems. Must be familiar with basic business software including Excel and MS Word and understand the principles of preventative and predictive maintenance. Must possess good to excellent mechanical repair skills and light to medium electrical skills, including troubleshooting and repair of pumps, motors, pneumatic control air systems, direct digital controls, and computerized HVAC control systems.

Must be experienced in using CFC recovery equipment, diagnostic gauges, and electrical diagnostic equipment such as a volt/ohm meter, and must be able to read and follow blueprints. Basic knowledge of NFPA and Life Safety Codes applicable in a healthcare environment and computer literacy are required.
