Overview

Candidates for Rigger will be trained in the following requirements:

* Selection and use of wire rope, chain and synthetic web slings, rigging hardware, and lifting devices

* Interpretation of rated charts for rigging gear

* Safe rigging practices and procedures

* Hand and radio communications and the responsibilities of the Rigger in Charge

* Determination of weight and center of gravity of loads

* Selection and use of hoists, chain falls and come-alongs

* Lifting and Handling gear inspection

Using the above acquired skills the rigger will be expected to support the following shipbuilding processes:

* Support the assembly and disassembly of machinery and equipment on and off the ships

* Responsible for lifting, moving and positioning ships and shipyard machinery, equipment, structural parts and other heavy loads

* Rig nuclear components

* Working under radiological controls (obtain and work with a TLD). Provide emergency response to fires and accidents

* Hourly Rates from $31.61 - $41.14

Responsibilities

* Candidates must be able to read and understand shipyard procedures, test documents, blueprints, etc.

* Candidates must be able to work all shifts, perform work from heights.

* Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.

Qualifications

Required:

* High School Diploma or GED or 2+ years relevant technical experience

* 5+ years of relevant experience

* Candidates must be available for any shift.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Previous rigging experience

* High School Diploma or GED

* Successful completion of the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative Training Program

* Candidates must be able to read and understand shipyard procedures, test documents, blueprints, etc.

* Candidates must be able to work all shifts, perform high work.

* Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
