Overview
Position: BOILER PLANT OPERATOR – Production Division, Public Works Department, New London, NAVFAC Engineering Command Mid‑Atlantic.
Grade: GS‑10 (Both Low Grade and High Grade are 10). Promotion potential:

- You will repair component parts (e.g., ducts, stacks, pumps, gauges, meters, relief valves) to maintain boiler equipment operation.
- You will adjust and regulate chemical proportioning pumps and boiler blowdown equipment to maintain efficient operations.
- You will use measuring and testing devices to determine source of boiler malfunctions.
- You will check measurement devices (e.g., feed water regulators, flow meters, flue gas temperature gauges, water level indicators) to determine if boilers are operating within prescribed limits.
To qualify, applicants must demonstrate sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of this position. Key elements include:
- Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.
- Engineering ingenuity – ability to suggest and apply new methods.
- Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, and operation.
- Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
