Senior Accountant

Thayer Mahan is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant for their Groton, CT office. This role is critical in supporting the management of financial reporting, month-end close processes, and ensuring compliance with government regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting skills and experience in a government contracting environment.

• Manage and execute month-end close activities including journal entry preparation, cash postings, accounts receivable, and others.
• Assist AP with GL coding, completion of expense reports and credit card transactions.
• Perform monthly Balance Sheet and bank reconciliations.
• Manage Fixed Asset capitalization and maintenance.
• Support DCAA government audits and year end financial audits.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve financial processes.
• Review and analyze current accounting processes, recommend and implement improvements to increase efficiency ensuring strict adherence to accounting standards.
• Assist with the review of monthly results and explain significant variances.
• Provide support to FP&A and project accounting teams.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Work on special projects as needed.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required).
• CPA a plus but not required.
• Familiarity with Federal Contracting requirements a plus.
• Strong foundation in GAAP.
• Manufacturing accounting experience a plus.
• Experience with Unanet accounting software preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in government contracting.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
